Part 1

Jim Richardson’s work helped to show me how to understand culture through photography. This has been an area that I’ve been very interested in because when I visit a place I like to learn about the culture around me. It is wonderful to see how a professional captures the world around us. His work also changed my perception by showing the wide range of photographers. He takes risks to achieve the image that he wants the views to see. He allows his photos to create an emotion to the person viewing them and make them think or understand what is going on. McCurry has shown me that instead of taking a photo that is just pretty, it is capable to take a beautiful photo with a meaning to them. He captures the beauty of humanity and nature portraying an emotion with each image. It really showed me that the range of a photographer is endless.

Hi Carina! I really like your video. The photographer that you focused on was David Hurn. I like the background that gave his photographic history with different types of photography and videography he did. All the photos that you presented followed what he particularly focused on, everyday life. In the photos that you showed in you documentary about David Hurn were photographs that showed joy, historic events in England, human activities and Fashion. This photographer’s work makes me intrigued on how everyday things can be so interesting to learn about. It makes in want to capture everyday life like he did. You did a really good job about critiquing his work.

Ashley,

I enjoyed watching your video on Steve McCurry. The pictures you chose to use were really cool because they show the life and culture of people outside of the USA. Its respectable that Steve has pictures of both the good and bad aspects of the places he travels to. His images spread awareness and offer educational insight. I thought you presented your ideas and described his photography very well. From your presentation I truly respect the diversity of our world and hope I can experience it the same way Steve does. Good work.
